Michael Serebriakov
I’m a husband, a father of two, a lawyer, a Star Wars fan, someone who’s listened to Hamilton one too many times, and oh, I’ve been writing since I was six years old and I have no plans to slow down. I’ve published four short stories, written many others, and one of these days I will finish that novel I’ve been working on.
You can read more about my writing journey thus far in my first blog entry, but long story short is that I was born in Budapest to Russian parents who were enrolled in university in Hungary, and then spent my childhood in Moscow before moving to Canada at the age of thirteen. In Vancouver is where I fell in love, got married, had kids, and built a career I’m very thankful for. When I’m not busy trying to be the best I can be as a dad, a husband, and a lawyer at the University of British Columbia, I’m trying to carve out a writing career.
I’ve been writing in English since before I could properly speak – a time when “please” was spelled “plis” and a concussion was literally translated as “broke his brain”. I’ve been supported through this journey by my wife and the wonderful friends I’ve had over the years.
After about a dozen false starts, I finally found a novel that I managed to stick to through the end of the first draft. This was completed a few years ago but I’m still working on it, currently on the fifth draft. Never realized how thorough the editing process is, but I really want to get this one right.
Through this blog I’m hoping to be able to share my journey as a writer – through edits, rewrites, rejections, insecurities, and hopefully successes. I want this to be the place where I can stay in touch with readers, shares writing tips, slices of my own life, and maybe indulge in an occasional rant. Thanks for stopping by.
